I really wanted to like X4: Foundations, because on paper this is exactly the kind of game I should love: start with one ship, build your way up, create trade networks, hire people, own stations, command fleets and eventually become a real force in the universe. The problem is not the concept. The concept is excellent. The problem is that the game often feels like it actively fights against the player. The early experience is especially bad. Instead of giving you a clear and satisfying first path into the sandbox, the game throws you into confusing objectives, poor guidance and missions …
you will learn early that theres no upkeep for ships, the game seens hardcore but its actually casual theres no rush, its all the clunkness of the UI and poor design of interactions that keep people away. pros: its a good singleplayer game, space simulator, empire sim, manager sim, RTS-ish, lots of mods, that you can sink thousands of hours in cons: you will need a youtube tab open to learn the game, not intuitive even for experienced gamers, there are no planets to visit, theres no upkeep for ships, no salary for workers, no fuel to be paid, ITS TOO EASY AND TOO GRINDY AT THE SAME TIME (its…
This game is amazing. I just do wanna say that I started it on a Wednesday, played for an hour did some tutorials, made a terran cadet. See i bought this in 2020 - and bought the DLCs on sale, all on sale over time. Now 8 years into development. Ive been waiting for this game since 2003 Freelancer. Anyway started on a wednesday and just couldnt get too into it. Thursday tried again did more tutorials and just...I just wasn't hooked. Oh well...guess this isn't it. Friday morning. What do you want to game? I'm on a long vacation. X4 my brain said, I want to learn a bit more. …
Did you enjoy Star Citizen? Stellaris? Hearts of iron? or any strategy games with a vertical learning curve? This game is literally everything i ever wanted and i was scared for years of spending time getting into it. It's much simpler than what i expected, just do the basic tutorials (30 min) and the map one, thats IT. or you can press H whenever and do the tutorial for whatever you're curious about mid game, and drop straight back into the game when you complete it. Just play the damn game.
